CHAPTER I. BACKGROUND

A.  Introduction

     San Juan City Science High School is located at Pinaglaban St. Brgy Saint Joseph (halo-halo) San Juan City. It is safe from flooding and has been free from fire incidents since its construction. The major concern that SJCSHS has is the evacuation of learners and school personnel when the BIG ONE comes due to its residential location.

     The School Contingency Plan presents the evacuation plan, school School Disaster Risk Reduction Management (SDRRM) and all baseline data relative to School Disaster Risk Reduction Management.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND DEMOGRAPHIC BACKGROUND

            San Juan City Science High School is located at #29 Pinaglaban St. Brgy. Saint Joseph (Halo-halo), San Juan City with a estimated land area of three thousand square meters (3,000) including the site of the School Division Office.

HISTORY OF SAN JUAN CITY SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL

         Before it became SJCSHS, it was known as the Special Science Class because it was a program that is under the mother school, San Juan National High School. The program was collaborative initiative and effort of the local government of San Juan and DepEd San Juan. The Government of San Juan envisions the San Juan City Science High School as an institution that can provide quality instruction with modern and up-to-date equipment’s necessary to achieve students’ optimum learning and capacity building.

         The school is strategically situated in a government center that is accessible to all its citizens especially to the deserving students because it is within the Pinaglabanan Elementary School Compound and opposite to the Cityhall of San Juan. And now that the new building is to be inaugurated, we can see a tangible result of all the efforts of stakeholders in its establishments.

 The school saw the need to create a special science class that will address the learning capability of students who are scientifically and mathematically inclined, have high English proficiency and with excellent capabilities. As an established institution, San Juan National High School Started putting up special science class in the school year 2013-2014 with grade 7 students who took an admission test administered by the Division of the City of San Juan.
